“Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.”
1 Corinthians 7:31 (NLT)
What’s up, everyone?!?! It’s been a minute since I’ve written anything here, haha. I just barely missed the month of May… guys, I promise I tried to have one finished for May. Life has just been very full of exciting celebrations and events! And as I prepare to leave, I strongly believe that being present with the people I’m with now is the most important thing I can do besides focusing on my relationship with God. Anyways, enough about that, I would love to start talking about part 2 of my mini blog series!: Physical Detachment! So, let’s dive into that!
Detachment is such an interesting word. The definition of the word is “the action or process of separation”. This means that for some, this can happen as instant as an action, or as slow as a full process. It looks different for everybody. That is why it is also something you can’t compare with anyone else, because it will always look different depending on the person and the situation. As humans who live in the physical world. Physically letting go is not easy; you have to let go of it and move on. This month, I got to witness this process for someone else. So let me share a short story that happened this month:
This story is about laundry. Long story short, we shocked our well. So that meant we couldn’t use water in our house for like 36 hours. My sister forgot and put dark clothes in the washer and ran it. Our clothes smelled like chlorine, and there’s bleach in chlorine, so all of these dark clothes were completely different colors. Thankfully for myself, there wasn’t much of my clothes in that load, so I dealt with little to no damage. That wasn’t the case for my youngest sister… The majority of the damaged clothes were her favorites. She cried for a very long time that day. It definitely wasn’t enjoyable for anyone. As I sat at the laundry mat and processed this chaotic afternoon. I realized that to me they were just some clothes, but to my sister they meant so much more than that. These clothes kind of made me think about life in general. Like, with clothes, we all are going to grow out of them eventually, whether it’s size or style, change will happen at some point, whether we like it or not. Sometimes it is even sooner than we expect. Even though these changes aren’t always easy, they’re good! Because change follows growth. This isn’t just with clothes; it’s also with God! Sometimes He leads us one way that completely changes into something completely unexpected. It will be hard, but there’s joy knowing that if it is from God, it will be good!
So, as I prepare to ‘blast off’ onto this big journey, I’m learning a big thing that comes with that is a literal detachment from physical things. For instance, this month was my last dance recital ever and my last college class for at least a year. These moments that were once a part of my daily life are now only a memory. Despite all the tears being shed, knowing that, I believe God was with me the entire time and had prepared me for those moments many months beforehand. Though it was sad, I couldn’t help but be overjoyed knowing that what God has for me next will be one of my favorite adventures yet!
That’s all I have to share for now! Thank you for taking a small moment out of your day to read a little of what God is doing in my life!
With much love,
Kielynn :)
